Clubhouse Project

We are working with Wheathampstead Parish Council and the Football Foundation to construct a permanent sports pavilion and changing facility on the site of an existing storage container adjacent to the Butterfield Road Playing Fields in Wheathampstead. The need to provide sports facilities for young people in Wheathampstead is identified at C1 of the Wheathampstead Village Plan as a means of combating anti-social behaviour.
Externally, the single storey pavilion will be positioned such that it is largely hidden from view in an area of existing trees and hedges. It will be secured against break-in and vandalism using steel shutters on windows and doors, and a simple design limits the opportunities for damage and theft.
Internally, the design will provide provision for the following
  • Separate Changing Rooms for Home & Away teams, and Match Officials, including shower facilities and separate w/cs. These are provisioned within FA recommended guidelines.
  • Disabled w/c
  • Common Room Space with seating
  • Basic Kitchen facilities
  • Storage for pavilion items and equipment

Inclusion of common room and kitchen spaces provides greater potential for multi-use of the facility by non-sporting groups.

In addition to the new Pavilion, the existing container will be retained and repositioned to provide storage for kit and equipment – for example goal posts and nets, line painting equipment, kit and training equipment. By rotating the storage container 90 degrees and positioning it along the South side of the new pavilion, it will itself be hidden from view of local residents.

This pavilion represents the essential facility requirement for Wheathampstead Wanderers FC to provide a Youth and Adult Football Offering which reflects its CASC status, its FA Charter Standard, and its standing in the local community.
