Chairmans Report 2015

posted Jul 14, 2015, 1:31 AM by Wheathampstead Wanderers

What an honour it has been to act as chairman in this the 25th season of Wheathampstead Wanderers.  The anniversary has been marked with the Respect Weekend (which raised more than £200 for the Poppy Appeal), special corner flags, new polo shirts, kits with silver numbers and badges (which will be continued) and a VIP table at our annual black tie dinner.  Thanks to Tracey for organising that fabulous event, the U10s for an excellent presentation day and Kris Cornish for creating the best programme yet!
I am pleased to report divisional cup successes for the U17s and U11 Sharks, and tournament wins for the U12 Sharks and U9s.  We also had three players taken into the Luton Town academy, and another has been given a place in the Arsenal Ladies Centre of Excellence.  This is proof of the opportunities that exist, and that we provide a direct path for the most talented.
It was fitting that we opened the artificial turf pitch during the season.  This has proved a great facility for the younger age groups to train and provide dedicated goalkeeper coaching.
And the season ended with recognition from our peers, when named Hertfordshire FA Charter Standard Development Club of the Year 2015.  Perhaps most gratifying though was that we had more kids than ever, who benefited from our ethos of putting the children first.

Unfortunately I am standing down as chairman because it is difficult to provide leadership when I can’t make a lot of meetings due to working nights.  However, I will be staying on as kit and equipment officer which itself is quite an undertaking with a new supplier and 40 teams to cater for!  I will also be overseeing development of the eagerly awaited club shop, and have taken on a new coaching role with the U14 Sharks next season.
Thanks to all the committee for their support over the season.
