CLUB HISTORY
Our Club (08/05/09)

Wheathampstead Wanderers was formed in 1990 by a small group of families from the village to promote and support youth football for the benefit of children and young people in Wheathampstead and surrounding areas. Starting as a single team there were three or four the following season and we just kept on growing. Today we are an FA Charter Standard Club, granted in 2008, with around 300 boys and girls playing football.
In those early days the teams played at the village primary schools, Beech Hyde and St Helens, before setting up home at Butterfileld Road in circa 1993. We now also have playing fields available at Marford Road.
The ethos of our founder members remains. We desire to create a positive environment based on mutual respect, a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship, rather than a “win-at-all-costs” attitude. We will be magnanimous in victory, dignified in defeat.
The club currently has two life presidents - John Seller and Les Wright - who were elected in May 2006. John Seller was involved in cub football before joining Wanderers in the 1990s, where he coached a very successful team for many years. John went on to help coach football at St Helens School before hanging up his boots. Les Wright was one of the early members who selflessly coached at the club for 15 years.
In 2009/10 we intend to introduce a first team, operating with the same sporting values as the youth teams, as part of a "football for life" policy.
