Well , Autumn arrived in full force down at Marshgate Road by the river where it was windier than an old peoples home !!! Boy it was blowing a hoolie .
It was good to be playing back amongst our own - Hertford one of only 4 teams to be still in Division One from last season !!
We had a near full squad with just Robbie out with an injury - Cameron, skipper for the day , won the toss and we chose to play into the wind . We always have good and close encounters with HT and this was not too disappoint .
We were finding it hard to cope with the wind and keep the ball down . Hertford were getting more of play in midfield and their No 9 was enjoying abit of freedom as they were looking for balls through the middle.James took a knock and came off for Olly and then we added Andrew on for Sam
Jack was playing well up front and had some great lay offs to Jonny out wide .- we just couldnt find the finish
They took the lead midway through the half with a bit of a familiar goal this season , Poor Jack facing a one on one and not much chance - they made it two not long after - a good bit of skill and fortune as the ball bounced back off Jack and into the net . We were struggling to get going and within afew we were 3 down ..
But as we do , we did not let our heads drop and some great play up front by Jack released Jonny on the right - a good cross and Andrew racing in hit a great shot into the corner . Andrew was causing problems for their defenders .3-1 down at half time and with the wind now dying down( typical) we made a couple more changes - James and Sam came into the middle of the Midfield and George was pushed up front.
We begun well and started putting H under pressure - George is always a threat when he runs at players and with Jonny looking good out wide we started to really peg them back - Couple of close calls and then the breakthrough . A shot by Pei Zhe outside the box , Sam cleverly left it and it went into the corner - Game on and more pressure - A shout for a pen was turned down and then a free kick was awarded just outside the box just as we then out the ball in the net .
The pressure was mounting but we could not get that elusive goal - with about a minute left James picked the ball up outside the box and struck it goalwards - it hung up agonisingly but the keepr could not hold it and into the net it went - 3-3 and we had one more break and chance on goal before the whistle went .
A great game by both sides and good for the 'neutrals'!!!
Pleased for the boys as they have had a tough few weeks in what is a tough division this season with not only new teams from other Leagues joining but also several Premier teams from last year dropping in to the Division ( even though they were not relegated!)
Well done chaps and something to build on
